WFMW ~ Detangler
March 14, 2007

My daughter has very thin, fine, and long hair. I have used every spray detangler I could find. They weren’t working well. I tried using my conditioner on her hair, but it wasn’t working as well as I thought it should! So, I set off to Target in hopes of finding a new detangler to try. While perusing the children’s bath aisle I was met with a new product. Johnson’s Buddies Easy Comb Conditioner. It came with promises of no more tears AND no more tangles. Well, I can’t say my daughter never has tangles because really when she wakes up in the morning her hair looks like a bird’s nest. But, OH MY WORD, this stuff works. It makes brushing her hair more enjoyable than before. You know when it was all tears and tangles and whining oh my! Even if we don’t brush her hair immediately after the bath ~ it is still much easier to get through. I haven’t bought anything since I found this stuff. Johnson’s Buddies easy-comb conditioner Works for Us!!!

Just a note: I haven’t found it at Wal-Mart yet, but Target has it every time!

WFMW ~ Kitchen Edition
March 7, 2007

Wfmwheader_17This week is the Kitchen Edition over at Works for Me Wednesday! Shannon has asked us to share anything that would help other cooks in the kitchen. (By the way, just click on the badge to go there.)To be honest, I’m still trying to find my groove in the kitchen and I’m not sure I have any tips or tricks that work well for us, yet!!! So, I thought I would share another recipe this week. If you’d like to see any other recipes I’ve shared just go here! And, if you are like me and need some good ideas to help you out in the kitchen then you need to head over to Shannon’s! I’ll definitely be spending some time there this week! 🙂

Also, if you haven’t been to THE PARTY, then by all means head on over. There are over 800 party hosts and I haven’t even been to a third of them. With hubby off this week and us trying to finish up some projects around here I just haven’t had the time. Thankfully, though, they are keeping that post in the archives so we can go visit any time we want. And, if I haven’t been to your party yet I can guarantee I’ll be there sometime this year! 🙂 If you’d like to see my party post you can go here!

Ok, so now for the recipe! This recipe is one of my hubby’s favorites and my best friend and I used to make it together. I believe she introduced me to it, is that right Mrs. Tater & Tot? I have to warn you that some of the amounts may be off because I’ve made it for so long that I no longer measure anything out!

Chicken Pasta Salad

1 large can of chunk chicken, I use only white meat

1 (16 oz) package of tri-colored noodles

1 small bottle of Ranch dressing, more or less to taste

1 can pineapple chunks, drained (I think it is the 14.5 oz can)

1/2 lb. (approximately) white seedless grapes, washed and cut into fourths (we used to de-skin them, but I no longer do that)

Salt & Pepper to taste

Cook the noodles per the boxes instructions. Drain and rinse them in cold water. Drain and flake the chicken. Wash and cut the grapes. Drain the pineapple.

In a large bowl combine the pasta, chicken, grapes, and pineapples. Mix them thoroughly add salt & pepper to taste and add the Ranch dressing. I add a little at a time until I get it just the way we like it. You don’t have to use the whole bottle if you don’t like it that creamy. My husband likes it very creamy and sometimes I’ll just spoon out enough for him to have two servings and add more Ranch to his! Store the leftovers (if you have any) in the refrigerator. It is great the next day and the next day…you get the point. It’s a cold pasta salad and will keep for a few days in the refrigerator. I make this alot in the warmer months, but we have been known to have it in the winter! 🙂

I hope you all enjoy this recipe as much as we do! It is tried and true and even kid-friendly! Now, head on out and visit Shannon and when you’re done there don’t forget to stop by THE PARTY!!!

Have a great week!

WFMW ~ To-Do List for Daughter
February 21, 2007

I am a list maker! I love the feeling you get when you cross out a task you have accomplished! 🙂 I am raising a list maker as well! My daughter will be six soon and Oh my word how she loves to make a to-do list! She gets so excited when she is able to check off all her tasks for the day!

I started making her a list last year when she was in preschool! I would put her tasks in order and draw a cute picture of what she was to do. She loved this, but now she wants to do it herself.

You can click on the picture to enlarge it! You may not be able to make out any of her tasks, but we know what they are! 😉 The excitement in her eyes when she has completed a to-do and gets to mark it off is just plain joyful. This has been a great self-esteem exercise and she actually doesn’t complain about doing her chores. If there is no list then there is whining and complaining at even the smallest of tasks – like picking up her room before she goes to bed. But, when she has the list she says – Oh, mommy now I have to pick up my toys!!!

I’m one who likes to mark all the way through my tasks, but she just likes to put a nice big check beside them. Whatever works for her…Works for Me!!!!

Have a great week everyone!

WFMW ~ Honesty is the best policy!
February 14, 2007

This may be a no-brainer for most of you and I don’t mean to imply that I’m a big fat liar! 🙂 I’m a people pleaser. Always have been, but that is changing. Not that I don’t still want to please people, but when it comes to my feelings and being honest about them I have to put that aside. Two instances of late have made me change my ways. A friend of long ago whom I have not spoken to in years because of some bad blood contacted me just a few days ago. She mentioned letting things go and getting together sometime. So, when I replied to her I let her know exactly how I felt about what happened, told her that I forgave her and apologized for anything I may have done to cause our separation. It felt good…no, it felt great.

Yesterday a friend of mine, whom is terrible at calling me back and was supposed to do something for me and didn’t and didn’t call to say otherwise, sent me a message telling me she was sorry. I messaged her back telling her exactly how I felt about the situation and that I accepted her apology. How liberating it feels to actually tell people they hurt my feelings! This may sound crazy to you that I am just now beginning to do this, but I’ve found it hard not to just let things slide and say “Oh, it’s okay!”. But, I keep that hurt bottled up inside and it festers, but no longer!!! Honesty IS the best policy and that is What Works for Me!!!

To see what is working for others around the blogosphere go check out Shannon at Rocks In My Dryer! You’ll find some great stuff there!!!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! May the love of God hold you close today and always!!!

Love, Sweet Love

How To Write a Romantic Love Letter

What a wonderful feeling! I have been so excited about this WFMW! But, I was struggling trying to think of something great to share. I finally figured it out and I hope you all may benefit from it as well.

One of the things Shannon asked us to share was relationship advice. And that is what I intend to do! My hubby and I have been together close to 14 years. We’ve only been married a short 5 years (in June), but we have been together for a long time. So, I feel like we have something good to contribute in this area.

Something we have done for as long as I can remember is to write to each other. Sometimes we will write each other a sappy love letter or personalize a sentimental card for each other. But, what really works for us is to write to each other face to face when we are in the midst of a disagreement.

We used to argue, fuss and fight and that got us nowhere. It just happened one day…we sat down with pen and paper and wrote out what we were trying to say. We take turns so that we have a chance to respond, but we don’t do so verbally.

Writing things out gives us each a chance to say what we want to say without being interupted or cut off. It also helps us to make our thoughts more clear to the other. Instead of trying to get the last word in or getting frustrated and flustered we are able to calmly get things settled. This has been a great way for us to communicate to each other without saying something we don’t mean.

When you write something down you have to think about it before you write it. Which, we all know, is not the case when you are verbally disagreeing! 😉

We do have a rule we follow when we do this…only one pen and one piece of paper. You don’t risk trying to out write each other and are forced to take turns!!!

You only really write down what you need to say. No harsh words or snide comments. This is what Works for US!!!
